Peak & Prime Basics |
---|
Peak and prime are the genes responsible for horses performing their best in races. Peak can be defined as how mentally prepared a horse is to race and how well they will live up to their potential. Prime determines how long a horse will remain at peak. These stats, and the related genes, show up on a horse's page depending on a couple of factors. Prime stars and Peak percentage show up in the Forever Pro Traits panel if you have a Forever Pro upgrade. The Peak and Prime genes are visible on a horse's Genetics page if you have purchased the Peak and Prime stablewide from the Pro Shop. However, you do not need either in order to gauge your horse's readiness for racing. If you do not have these traits or genes available (or just need a little extra help), refer to the Evaluating Talent page. |
Peak |
All horses have a predetermined age at which they will reach their peak. They will gain and lose Peak according to their genes (Low, Moderate, Strong). The least amount of peak a horse will gain per month is about 2%. At most, a horse will take about 50 months to reach their peak if they have low Peak genes. If they have strong Peak, they can reach 100% peak within 6 months. These values are examples of extreme possibilities and of course will differ from horse to horse. Without assistance from pasture, specialty jockeys, or items, High Peak can be expected to peak at 2-3 years old, Moderate Peak can be expected to peak at 3-4 years old, and Low Peak can be expected to peak at 4-5 years old. Once horses are at 100% Peak, they will begin to use up their Prime. If you have Forever Pro, you can see Peak increasing or decreasing on horses two years and older. If you can’t see peak, use peer comparison! Above Average or Far Above Average peer comparisons usually indicate the horse is peaked or close to peaked. |
Prime |
Horses will be born with varying amounts of Prime according to their genes (Poor to Outstanding). Each star represents five months of Prime. The maximum they can be born with is 10 stars - although they may still begin with more than 50 Prime. As noted above, once horses hit 100% peak, they will start using Prime. Prime will decrease by 1 (not 1 star) each month while a horse is at 100% Peak. When a horse runs out of Prime, they will begin losing Peak. If you have a Forever Pro, this will be indicated by red arrows facing to the left showing that the bar is going down. A horse will continue losing Peak until it reaches 0% unless they gain more Prime. At any point when a horse gains Prime, their Peak will begin filling up again. |
Improving Peak & Prime |
Besides using items to influence Peak and Prime, you can use training exercises. Long gallops will increase Peak. During the off season long gallops, trail rides, and track rides all also have a chance to increase Prime. It's recommended you consider long galloping your slow peaking horses to prepare them to race sooner. You should also consider using the off season to improve Prime to keep them performing at their best. Buddy workouts also can add Prime along with their many other benefits. For more information on training and buddy workouts, visit your horse's exercise page and use the guides linked there. |
Special Feeds and Items | |

Nurturing Jockey | Nurturing jockeys are one type of custom jockey you can hire. While not always the most competitive jockey, they work best with green horses. Each time they race, they'll give a small boost to Peak and sometimes Prime. They will also raise a horse's Peak during training if a horse's Peak is 75% or lower. |
Bundle of TLC | Bundle of TLC is an item which can be crafted in the Workshop. It will raise Peak, along with Condition, Morale, Energy, Maturity, and Experience. The benefits from Bundle of TLC happen each monthly rollover, so it is a long-term rather than instant solution. |
Radiant Truffles | Radiant Truffles are an item you can craft in the Workshop. They come with 3 uses and each use will instantly improve your horse's Prime by around 3 stars (9 months). It will only work on horses have not already "had enough time in the spotlight" - meaning it will not work on horses who already have a high amount of Prime and/or have competed in a lot of races. |
Sunkissed Tart | You can craft a Sunkissed Tart in the Workshop. This sweet treat will instantly increase a horse's Peak by around 25%. Sunkissed Tarts may not be used on 2 year olds, but there are otherwise no limitations to its use. |
Mistweaver's Cloak | Mistweaver's Cloak is an item that can be obtained in Rumpled Packages from the Rusty Recycler. It randomizes a horse's bloodline and cloaks (hides) it for that horse and its offspring. It also improves Peak and Prime genes as well as Heritage genes and producer quality. It can only be used on horses who do not yet have offspring on the ground. |
New Year's Resoultion | New Year's Resolution is an item that occasionally rotates into the Pro Shop. This restores all of your horses age 3 and older to safe levels of Peak and Prime in addition to Condition, Energy, Morale, and pregnancy risk. It's the best way to get your entire stable back on track after a period of inactivity. |
Master Massager | This item can be found in the Pro-Shop during sales. Is your horse tired, sore, and a bit cranky? Then they're sure to LOVE this weighted massaging blanket. Just throw it over their back and push the start button and they'll be in for a treat. It will increase their Prime, Condition, Rest, and Morale over a period of 4 months. |
